Impact rating key

Same scale every week

Green means better for you, red means worse. Never change the scale mid-quarter.

High

Could cost you revenue or customers in the next 30 days. Needs a decision this week.

Medium

Worth watching. Discuss it if it repeats next week or another competitor copies it.

LowOpportunity

Low: log it, move on. Opportunity: a gap you can use, so give it an owner.

4

So what: actions

Every High and Opportunity gets one

"Monitor" is not an action.

Why a weekly competitor report

You probably already track your competitors somehow. A Slack channel of screenshots, a shared inbox full of their newsletters, a Notion page nobody has opened since spring. Starting isn't the hard part. Doing it every week, and turning it into decisions, is.

A weekly report fixes both. It gives the work a deadline, and it forces every observation through one question: does this change what we do?

Tracking your competitors is not hard to start. It's hard to do it consistently and usefully.

Pick the competitors you'll track

Start with three. Five at most. A report covering ten brands is a list, not an analysis.

  • One direct rival: the brand your customers compare you with most.
  • One price challenger: the cheaper option that wins on cost.
  • One brand to learn from: someone in an adjacent category whose marketing you admire.

Put them in the report header and keep the list fixed for at least a quarter, so week-to-week changes stay comparable.

Here’s how to build your first report

If you’re doing it yourself, start with three competitors. Collect their emails, ads and offers. Log what changed, then decide what deserves a response.

Working with your AI agent? Give it the template, the period you’re reviewing and your examples. Ask it to draft the report and link to its sources.

Then read what comes back. Check the claims, challenge the recommendations, and choose what your team should actually do.

Share it so it actually gets read

  1. Send it at the same time every week. Monday morning works for most teams.
  2. Paste section 1 into the message itself. Link the full report for anyone who wants more.
  3. Open each report by checking last week's actions, so owners know someone will ask.

Common mistakes

  • Logging without evidence. Six weeks later nobody remembers what the old pricing page said, and your desktop is full of files called "Screenshot 2026-10-19 at 09.41".
  • Changing the rating scale. Keep High, Medium, Low and Opportunity fixed so trends show up.
  • Reporting activity, not change. "Brightleaf sent emails" isn't news. "Brightleaf tripled its email frequency" is.

Get the template and AI prompts

Pick Excel, Figma or Notion. Add your competitors and start with the example. The prompts are there if you want your agent to help.

  • All five sections, ready to fill in
  • The filled-in example to copy from
  • Excel, Figma, Notion and AI prompts
Or skip the busywork

You’ve got the template. Now you need the evidence.

Before you or your agent can write the report, you need to know what your competitors have been doing.

With the free template

  • Collect the examples you want to review.
  • Fill it in yourself, or ask your agent to work from them.

FAQ

Questions

What should a weekly competitor report include?

A short summary of the most important moves, a log of every change by competitor and channel, an impact rating for each, and a list of actions with owners. This template has all four, plus a checklist of where to look.

How many competitors should I track?

Start with three: a direct rival, a price challenger and a brand you learn from. Past five, the report turns into a list instead of an analysis.

Who should get the report?

Anyone who makes decisions it could change, usually marketing, product, sales leadership and the CEO. Paste the summary into the message so they don't have to open anything.

Is the template free?

Yes. Enter your email and you'll get the Excel, Figma, Notion and AI prompt resources.

Do I need AI?

No. You can fill in every section yourself. The prompts are optional.

Can I use my own AI agent?

Yes. Give it the template, prompts and examples you want analysed. Ask for a draft, then check the sources and conclusions before sharing it.

Will the template track my competitors?

No, it helps you put the report together. You still need to collect the information yourself, use an agent with access to those sources, or get it through Panoramata.
